ABOUT THE STAMPS

A few of the works use The Wildings series of definitive postage stamps featuring the Dorothy Wilding photographic portrait of Queen Elizabeth II that were in use between 1952 and 1967 until they were replaced by the Machin series. Most of the stamps that are used in these designs are from the Machin series of postage stamps which is the main definitive stamp series in the United Kingdom, in use since June 1967.  They were designed by Staffordshire artist Arnold Machin, and consist simply of the sculpted profile of the Queen and a denomination, and are almost always in a single colour. The effigy on British stamps has never been updated making them ideal for the creation of images due to their regular size and wide range of colours. Special issue stamps and stamps from other countries are included if appropriate to the design.
