Tretchikoff – The Rainbow
This summer marks the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall riots and WorldPride 2019. This picture celebrates the progress made in Stonewall campaigns for the equality of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people across Britain. The rainbow flag, commonly known as the gay pride flag is a symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) and is also a symbol of peace. Tretchikoff created his iconic picture of the Chinese Girl in 1952 and in this stamp rendering it brings up to date the rainbow colours of the gay pride flag in celebration of the progress being made towards the creation of a more equal society in the 21st century.
